Grooming Product Formulation

With so many dog grooming salons adding retail to their service and product offer, the opportunity to develop bespoke ‘own label’ products is proving irresistible to some groomers. We produce shampoos, colognes, and care products for pets, and for the past six years we’ve been busy developing award-winning products for some popular international grooming brands.

What are the real benefits of creating my own grooming range?

Own label products can provide brilliant opportunities for groomers. These opportunities include the potential to increase brand exposure, as well as increasing revenue by retailing their own grooming range in a salon or as an online retail store. For businesses entering the world of Amazon retailing you’ll be pleased to hear that our products are available in packaging which adheres with Amazon’s double seal requirements.

What experience does Techtron have in grooming product formulation?

Techtron are market leaders in formulating grooming products that have been trialled and tested by expert groomers, ensuring all expectations are met. We have formulated award winning products for some of the largest brands on the market. You can read a little more about us here.

What standards would my products be manufactured to?

All our products are manufactured here in the UK in a state-of-the-art facility accredited to ISO9001:2015 and BRC consumer and retail standards.

I’m a small business and worried that I will have need to place a large MOQ (minimum order quantity). Do you have the facilities to product small batches?

Our range of “off the shelf” products are available to anyone, regardless of the size of their business. To meet the needs of smaller businesses who aren’t looking to product at a large scale, we have a dedicated small pack room at our manufacturing facility to make launching an own brand range of products accessible with realistic minimum order quantities and no set up fees.

More and more of my customers are looking for vegan and plant-based treatments and products. Do you cater to these growing demands?

Our range of pet grooming products has been developed with this growing demand in mind. The range focuses on natural and plant-based formulations, whilst still incorporating cosmetic additives to maximise benefits to the dog. Unlike many other products on the market, all of our private label dog shampoos in this range are SLES / SLES free and formulated based on plant derived surfactants with a minimum of 95% natural materials used. Examples of this include the addition of eucalyptus to our Ear Cleaner for additional moisturising properties, and ground oatmeal in our soothing Oatmeal Shampoo to reduce inflammation and irritation.

Our expertly developed private label coat care products are perfect to keep a dog’s coat clean, healthy, and smelling great, all whilst being environmentally focused.

There are so many products on the market and in demand, that I don’t even know where to start! What products would be a good starting point for me?

What a question, and one we are asked every day! The choice really is up to you. We always encourage customers to listen to what their own customers are asking for and pick out between two and six products to get you started. If you are really stuck, then either myself or one of my colleagues would be happy to help. We’re finding that our long- lasting dog colognes (which are suitable for dogs of all ages and breeds) containing aloe vera, vitamin E and Pro-vitamin B5 are very popular as they can help to boost the shine of a dog’s coat as well as leave a beautiful, long-lasting fragrance.

A popular go-to fragrance is “Baby Powder” – it really does freshen up even the smelliest of dogs.

My salon is still recovering from closures due to lockdowns over the pandemic. I’m interested in developing my own brand of products, but is now a good time?

It’s natural to have those concerns, and you’re most certainly not alone. Our private label products have been an easy way for brand owners to retail and remarket their products using multiple online and offline channels with only a small investment required.

In all honesty, there’s never been a better time than now to look at private label pet care products to increase your revenue and make up for lost time. UK pet ownership grew significantly during the pandemic. A 2022 UK survey from the Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PMFA) revealed that UK households now include 13 million dogs, supported with many people continuing to work from home. I’ve looked through your range of off the shell products, but you don’t have what I’m looking for. Does that mean I can’t have the products I want?

You’re in luck! If you are looking for a bespoke product, we offer a unique product development service. Our formulation chemists can design pet care products in line with a benchmark sample or new product brief. We have developed products for market leading brands that have won awards, so it’s safe to say that you’ll be in safe and friendly hands.
