We have a long-standing partnership with our customer who is a USA pet care supplier, who supply to the USA and the UK. They have previously ordered our dog ear cleaner and came to us to request a different twist top sealed cap option for subsequent orders of the same product.
In all our initial orders, the arrangement was to send the Ear Cleaner product with an induction heat sealed screw cap and an applicator nozzle as separate elements. The applicator nozzle was then applied at their premises. For subsequent orders, they requested that we seal the nozzles at Techtron.
Our customers Ear Cleaner is being sold online through multiple channels. One of these channels is Amazon UK, who have a strict Double Seal Policy in regard to liquid products such as cleaners, detergents and cosmetics.
The Amazon requirement for a dual seal means that the product needs to be either heat sealed underneath a cap with a foil liner or packaged in a clear, labelled, leak proof bag.
When the customer request arrived, we had no sealing capability at Techtron to seal the nozzle.
We do have inline heat sealers for standard sizes and shapes of caps that we utilise often for our products. The problem we encountered was that the applicator nozzle was too tall for the heating element in our current sealers to reach the foil substrate to complete the sealing process.
Clare Rowe, Techtron’s General Manager says:
“We knew that we had to add a different specification of induction heat sealer to our technical capability. We were keen to show our customer that we wanted to build the relationship and are invested in the longevity of the partnership.
“It was important to demonstrate how we respond to any new packaging requirements and can move with customer requirements by adding on to our capability.
“Because we now have induction heat sealing capability, we can fulfil Amazon’s second seal requirement for products that need an applicator nozzle. This is important because there will be no leakage in the post, it removes the need for time intensive repacking, stops counterfeiting and is required for tamper evidence."
With our new induction heat sealer, we can extend our reach into twist top nozzles. This will mean if a customer of ours has been paying for Amazon’s repacking service or have used individual boxes to bypass any repacking there could be a cost saving of up to £0.40 per unit.
